The rains have reached Chennai and even though it’s a relief from the terribly warm days, it has its share of dark shades.

As quoted by health experts, the North East monsoon results in a steep rise in water borne and vector borne diseases.
The diseases range from malaria and dengue to water borne diseases like Jaundice, the rains also contribute to the usual fever, diarrhoea and dysentery.

So with this being the perfect conditions for bacteria to grow, wading through the filthy waters romantically would be the last thing you would want to do.

1-  FOOD FROM STREET VENDORS

Control your panipuri cravings for a while as the Bhai next door might not be using purified water, chances are that it will be contaminated.

Do- Stick to home cooked food or if you don’t  have that option, spend the bucks and go for a reputed restaurant.


2-GETTING WET IN THE RAIN.

Control the urge for that rainy bike rides with your girlfriend. We have only seen actresses dancing in the rain for that shot, we’ve not seen them rushing to their warm caravan’s after that. So let’s keep the plan simple, avoid getting wet.

Do- Stay warm inside the office, ask the auto to take you inside your apartment.

3- USING WET GARMENTS

 If you don’t change your wet clothes, you are just making it all the more easy for the germs to grow on you. Damp clothes are the best places for a mosquito to multiply and mosquitoes are not the best guys to have around.

4- WATER FROM OUTSIDE
 The hotels are bound to provide you water with their meals but it’s your call to drink it or not, ask for one of those purified water bottles or the “garam pani”, the mantra is always to stay safe.

Do- Rely only on purified water even if it means walking an extra mile.

5-WEARING DAMP SHOES.
You might be thinking that your foot has travelled miles and its immune to all the fungal infections, you are absolutely wrong, It is very sensitive, a dip in that germs ridden puddle can even give you  Athletes foot, don’t be proud of it because it’s a disease.

6- AVOID SPICY FOOD

The last thing you would want to do is irritate your gastrointestinal tract, in monsoon it is better to choose light food instead of the heavy spicy meaty dishes.

Do – Stick to steamed food, and avoid oily and meaty food.


So this monsoon, go healthy, stay warm and save your leave for something special rather than a nose block because it’s just not worth it.
